On St Johns Island
17th October. 1914
Arrived in Singapore.This English colony is situated on a big island. We were taken in a small steamer and then a big tram to the other side of the island to Singapore. From there we went to St John's Is.
Here we were greeted by several Germans . We were placed in camps. In camp 3, were besides myself others who had been employed as sailors & stewards on English ships, Plantation Manager, two businessmen, the 4th Engineer, assistant Engr, the telegraphist and the cook from "Markomania" we were received well.

Life in the camp is lively and harmonious. The food is very good. Each man receives 6 eggs a day. In the evening we sit at a long table and play cards
