who had been put in charge of "Pontoporus" any trouble I paid him the money. But thereby he "cut his own throat," for now the English could maintain that he had served the germans and had received money for it and thereby violated neutrality. The result was that a prize crew were put on his ship and the ship had to follow.
We were treated faultlessly all the day. We had orders to remain in the mess and could only go to toilette one at the time and only by notifying the guard first.
This was the first day on an English warship and in English captivity.

13th October 1914
Today we were allowed out on the deck. The English officers came and conversed with us in English.
