Notes made on board S.M.S. "Emden" on the war against Russia, England, France and Japan

East Asia 1914/15

The "Emden" still lays in Tsingtau which she has not left since my imbarkation. She should have started the journey at the beginning of July 1914 and was to go to Shanghai first where we were to remain for some weeks. But on account of some trouble which had again as often before, broken out in China, we had to remain in Tsingtau for the protection of the germans. This was really indifferent to me, as I had already got pretty well used to this place and besides the bathing season was now opening. However it turned out different than I had expected.
