The diary describes in some detail the very bad conditions the troops experience: lack of food and water for both men and horses, and high levels of disease such as malaria and dysentery].

3./5/16Indian Burial Party attempted to cremate corpse. Unsuccessful. Body thrown into sea. Washed ashore again at night laying exposed – for best part of day.
