[Page 58]

Monday, 18 June 1917
Sea still rough but moderated towards evening. About 7.30 pm we passed a hospital ship all lit up. Think it was the "Oxfordshire". Are just about rounding the Cape of [Good Hope] & should reach Cape Town tomorrow. Half an hour later we passed another Hosp. ship.

Tuesday, 19 June 1917
At daybreak land was in sight and we proceeded into port coming alongside wharf at 12 noon & thus arrived at Cape Town. Was on guard but got ashore at 7pm to 10pm. The rest of the troops were granted leave at 2 pm. Being dark when I was on shore could not see much of town. Table Mountain was very clear all day with cloth on it.
