[Sunday 23 July 1916]

"It is a case now of in again, out again, off again "Monaghan"
We only come to Camp for Horsefeed & Rations, scrap every day now.
One of our chaps who got a crack swore & sang out "The --- wait till Bill comes, he'll give 'em something"- meaning brother.
Several duels every day now & we are not so good as the German Planes unfortunately (I should not say this)
With glasses I could pick up the colored Austrian or German uniform on Officers out on the Desert I suppose they'll get closer yet & well have a big go soon. We can do with all BILLS BROTHERS-
