very brown indeed. For some time past, his Company had been camped down near the Canal, but moved up here a day or two ago. He told me he had a very good chance of getting his Commission very shortly, but I was hardly expecting him to come down to see me this morning on his way to Cairo, saying it was fixed up, & that he was going in to get uniforms etc. I congratulated him heartily – I was jolly glad to hear that his brains had been appreciated at last.
