not have the satisfaction of actually defending against a determined assaul. Our battallion won 3 Military Crosses and several minor decorations for the affair. We dig in every night & the Hun artillery kept us on the jump and continuously blazing away. They know the exact range of course for they 'registered' by day and blaze away by night. There were several miraculous escapes. I took the General round one day and they sent two shells at us and missed us by a few feet. I was equally fortunate
