Aug 22nd Took on Cooking down there & was appointed Corporal Cook Sept 2nd left Queens Park on Final leave Oct 4th went to Melbourne rejoined Unit at Albert Park on Oct 9th. We left Melbourne to embark on Troopship A 11 S.S. Ascanius, Nov 10th. had a great send off. Thousands were on the Pier amongst them being Aunt Jennie, Esther & Warwick, Mrs Jacobsen of Sydney & several of my friends. Passed through the Heads about 6.30 PM & arrived at Suez Dec 6th after a pleasant but uninteresting trip, as we did not call into any ports after leaving Melbourne. We anchored in the bay at Suez for one day & then went alongside the Wharf at 1.30 Dec 7th. Was one of the advance party to leave for
