Mitchell mentions several chiefs, on the Bogan and elsewhere,

who were named Kumbo.   Now observe that in the course of  

a few generations every blackfellows descendants come into

the class of Ippai and also into that of Kumbo

It may be seen that while the line of father  

and son is kept in Kumbos and Kubbis the children

of Kubbi's daughter Buta are Ippai and Ippata,

and their children are Murri and Mata.   Here then is

a rigid rule of descent, and caste privilege

associated with it;   yet the rule is so peculiar  

that a man's children belong to another class

than his own, and his grand children and great
