I. With respect to the early history of the
aborigines, it is certain that they have been for
many centuries in habitants of Australia. The
unity of the people, of which proofs will be given shortly,
coupled with the fact of their dispersion over the whole
of this vast continent, shows this. With all the
resources for emigration at the command of
England and of America, neither of those
nations is extending its colonies at a rate that
would encompass Australia, as the black race
have encompassed it, in the course of three or
