<p>[Page 138]<br />Aug 30 Wed [2 X’s marked at top of page] Raining nearly all day I with party of others worked on No 3 Pit. putting Turf on etc. All got wet. I had my waterproof. Sgnt Young worked with us and got us a rum each afterwards Rec. a good few letters old ones. Got to bed early and dried clothes by Kitchen fire</p><p>Aug 31 Thur At work to-day helping to clean up round billet and Distructor made a good job of latter. Rec. some more mail one from Eileen H. We were paid to-day 40 FR.<br />X (5.30.) P.M. Awfull accident No 3. A. Sub Pit charge exploded in gun after two rd’s. fired. Killed Bomb. Burnside. Died afterwards Bomb. Brockwell & Act. S M Young. & out of action Gnr Ball & Cole. Some awfull wounds. [Went on Guard 10 P.M.</p>
