It is a Native of Ceylon, and from the Gum - Lac which it affords, the Manufacturers in India, extract that lively Scarlet Colour, with which they paint their Callicoes.  After the Colour is extracted, it serves to make Varnishes and Sealing Wax, to which purposes it is also applied in Europe to a large extent

Curcuma longa Linn.  Turmerick

This Root is universally used all over India, for colouring and seasoning their Foods.  In Europe it is used as a Medicine, but is chiefly consumed as a Dye, and is necessary for several other Mechanical purposes.  This Plant is cultivated in most parts of the East Indies, but chiefly in Amboina, Ceylon, and upon the Coast of Malabar.

Cambogia Linn. S.N. p.1073  The Gamboge Tree

Gamboge is a Resinous Gum universally used over Europe as a Paint, and Sometimes as a Medicine.

The Tree which affords it grows in Cambodia, in Ceylon, and it is said in China.
