and all the Officers and Privates of the New South Wales Corps, from their duty and allegiance, into open rebellion against me His Majesty's Representative as Governor in Chief of the Territory and the whole Civil Power, and Magistracy of the Colony.
6th This rebellious act was done so suddenly that in about five minutes from the time we first knew of it, Government House was surrounded with Troops; Major Johnston having brought up in battle array, about three hundred Men under Martial Law their Musquets loaded with Ball, to attack and seize my Person, and a few Friends, who were Magistrates, that had been at Dinner with me and my Daughter. Their Colours were spread, and they marched to the Tune of "the British Grenadiers", and to render the Spectacle more terrific to the Towns People, the Field Artillery on the Parade were presented against this House where I became confined, and had five Centinels put over me; and all the Civil Magistrates were placed under arrest in their own Houses.
7th In order to detail some things explanatory of the conduct of the designing Persons connected with the Rebellion of the New South Wales Corps, it is proper I should, at least, shew the recent circumstances which took place antecedent to their treasonable and cowardly attack on my Person; and the confinement which I still remain under.
