(a) To the time of this Despatch being closed they have executed Seven persons.

Rebellious courts of Justice were going on (a), and my Book containing copies of Letters to the Secretary of State sent for, and Paragraphs read to elucidate my conduct and designs as likewise to irritate the minds of the Officers and People. That the people might be attached to the Rebellious Party, they promised numerous Licences, Cows and other Stock out of Government, Herds and Flocks, while they were sending Memorials into the Country; and by these promises, or threats, they induced a number of poor persons to sign them, which are the kind of Documents they have to give a colour of consistency to their rebellious proceedings.

          79th - The serious part of my duty which I had order to execute in evacuating Norfolk Island caused His Majesty's Ship Porpoise to be now absent, but expected every day to arrive; this object of securing this Ship on her return, became of great consequence to me, for the Officers of her (particularly Acting Lieutenant Symons who had the command of her, on account of the sickness and death of Captain Putland, and Acting Lieut. Ellison) having been here during the time of His Majesty's Ship Buffalo, were very intimately connected with the Rebellious Party in all
