"authority; that from the confessions of those Persons it appears that you have been acting upon a settled Plan to subvert the Laws, to terrify and influence the Courts of Justice, and to deprive every Person who had the misfortune to be obnoxious to you of their property, Liberty and lives. The Lieutenant Governor feeling that an offence of such magnitude must be productive of the most serious consequences is impelled by sentiments of humanity to give you this early notice that you may consider and seriously reflect on the measures which may be necessary for your justification.
His Honor has farther directed me to assure you that as soon as the examinations are complete you shall be furnished with a Copy and that if you think proper all the Evidencies shall be reexamined in your presence and be directed to answer any questions you like to propose to them. His Honor has also desired me to assure you, that it will give him the greatest satisfaction to contribute to every means in his Power to the alleviation of the distress of your present situation, and to the comfort and accomodation [accommodation] of you and your Family.
