People that Belongd to them happening not to be upon the Spot Could ask no Questions. I saw however the Bed of Copperas stones which was Laid upon a Descent about 70 paces Long & 40 Broad they were Confind on each side By a brick wall about two feet high Every where but at the Lower End where it was 5 through this End came the Drains though [through] which the Impregnated water fell into Reservoirs Coverd over about three paces distant from the wall out of which it is pumpd into Boiling houses about as many paces below the Reservoirs the works were situated at Gillingham about three miles from Chatham from whence return to Strode to See the Manufacture of Gunflints which was Carried out by boys of about twelve years old to great Seeming Profit one struck off Peices of flint of a Proper thickness with a little hammer while another formed them upon a little Anvil made for that purpose the man who employd them said that one day with another they made about a thousand a day which were divided into 5 sorts the Best of which sell for 30 shillings. Observd in the woods today the nuts to be in Blow both male & female Perennial Dogs Mercury in Bud ready to Break out into Male Blossoms. Observd also today a Species of Pink upon the Highest Walls about Rochester Castle but no where within my reach so that could not Determine what species. I made this Day some little Enquiries
