about Fossils but without much Success about the Vitriol works I found indeed some Good Specimens of the Piped waxen Vein of Grew & Learnt of the Gunflint Maker that he often found different Substances as Echini &c: in Splitting his Flints & sometimes Mundicks but as he has saved nothing I was forc'd to be content with his account of the matter.  At three today came down Mr &  Mrs Hodgkinson & Miss Henley so shall not be able to do much more than attend them to shew what is to be seen for this Day or two.

26th - Went this Morn with Mr Hodgkinson to see Bests Brewhouse where that Business is Carried on in a Very Extensive way his Mash Tub mashes fifty Quarters of Malt at a time which is done Constantly 4 Sometimes Six times a week but what gave a Greater Idea of its size was our Luckily coming in as they were taking away Dry Grains out of it which were divided by little Lines into 20 Divisions as Chandlers do a chese each of which Divisions was a Cart Load as we saw the rest of this Day the it raind without ceasing was spent in Shewing the Ladies the Dock yard. etc: where they were very well amused & well as tarrd by one of the Shipps in Dock which they went on board of.

27 - This Morn rains Very hard Mr & Mrs Hodgkinson etc go to town.  Sr: Thomas Adams Carries me to See Mr Tomlins Collection of Shells &c: where we saw the Great Hawfinch which had been shot in this Countrey from him also
