We filed out of this camp (on Sat. Nov. 4th) with an interval of one hundred yds. between each party of five. We passed out over this sea of distruction, & although the country was open to our view for miles & miles it would have been almost impossible to find our post without the aid of a guide. Shell hole overlaped shell-hole, as far as the eye could reach, & to anyone having seen a gold diggings, this scene gave the idea of a vast alluvial field where the dry-blowers had gone below the depth limit.
