lazy rise & fall of the star shells that light up this strange land & then die out making the darkness fall on you more closely than before, makes a walk like this anything but a pleasant one, & causes you to doubt if you are realy living on this beautiful old world of ours.
In daylight the landscape is a never varing & desolate one, & the overlaping shellholes give the impression of a rolling ocean which reaches the horizon on all sides, & it does not take a great deal of imagination to think of the remaining stumps of the woods, that were, as storm battered
