body, & being dug below the level of the road it was very wet & muddy. But there was no choice, & I felt the lonelyness of the grave which the place so much resembled. It rained towards morning, & I was awakened from a fitful sleep by the water pouring, in bringing with it the earth which formed the sides of my home. I was in total darkness, as the small piece of candle I posessed had been washed, with other things, into the mud.
