the whole way; while on coming to the top of a hill my brakesman told me to look behind & I could see the road a mile behind & it was just one long sinous snake of marching troops & the same ahead all going forward

Meeting us were motor ambulances with wounded & one big fleet of omnibuses.

We have just bivouaced outside Albert & the bombardment is the biggest I have heard one ceaseless roar while with the big guns one can follow the whirr of the shell through the air & the distant
