Afterward I got a chair near the stove next to "Gran'pere" who is I guess He had the biggest pair of feet I ever saw on a man & seemed proud of them. He was a garruluous old fellow & when he found I had a smattering of French there was no holding him I don't think he'd had such a hearing in his own home for years.
He told me he was a soldier in the war of '70 and as he only had one eye I though I was on the track of a tale but he missed a great chance & told me the truth – it was the result of a hayfork accident 30 years ago.
