near some old German dugouts – very deep & the timber & labour used in building them made one think that the German had no thought of advancing just hanging on.

Bapaume in ruins and an occassional shell was dropping in it still as we marched through after some trouble found out where it was & rejoined our the Company about 5 o'clock about 2 mile East of Bapaume on the Cambrai road deep dead tired – not being in after 15 miles with ones pack up & not being in marching condition
