one day a Major came into the mess hut & warned us "not to waste biscuits as economy was of great importance & every individual effort was necessary" That day I was up at the Quartermasters Hut & saw in his waste box two slices of buttered toast thrown away that I would have willingly paid a franc for, for we are on short bread rations in the mess hut & have to make up on biscuit. Also the following the following day the officers gave a dance & we had to clean out the mess hut & I was one that was set to shred out about 7 lbs of Gover
