There are no [letter-stocks?] and no knowledge of them:

height, this always being done with the feet foremost.
In the corrobborees[corroborees], which always take
place after dark and occupy the greater portion of the
night, the men never dress or act the part of women,
who occasionally take part in the dancing.
49.  Communications. Camp.  There are beaten tracks all
over the country.  They invariably camp near water, in a
sheltered spot during the cold weather, and in a
comparatively dry one during the wet.  No particular
arrangement of the huts, though those of friends and
near relatives, as well as those of brothers-in-law will
often be in close juxtaposition.  A man with one wife,
and a small family, will occupy a hut with a single
entrance:  if he has one old wife, and other wives and children
a larger hut will be occupied, the "old" [^woman] [wife crossed out], having a
separate entrance and separate fire to herself. (sect.[section] 58)
Two or more families will often camp in the same hut,
an uncle's with his nephew's, a brother's and his group -
brother's-in-law.  Strangers coming up to the camp
sit down at same distance away, and have to wait
until they are invited in.
50.  Painting of the Body  The painting of the body varies
according to the purpose for which it is intended:  eg. for
mourning, fighting, initiation, or general corrobborees[corroborrees].
The gins are, for any object, only painted in designs on the
face, the men of course having their bodies decorated as
well.  There is no ordinary every-day "painted" costume.
51.  Cicatrices.  Raised scars are only to be seen on the
men:  they are originally cut with quartz or glass, rubbed
into with clay, and kept open sometimes for a month or two.
These scars are totally independent of any initiation
ceremony, do not vary with the rank or tribe, and are
executed for flash purposes solely.  On the ^back, breast, and on
the stomach, as low down as the umbilicus, they are  transverse,
- on the outer thigh and shoulders, they are vertical:  a
few transverse ones, like "armlets", are sometimes seen
