Since december 1796 my salary has been £602..s10 Sterling per annum till now. - and when I left Bengal in October last, I was worth £2,000 Sterling, which sum is in the hands of Messrs. Campbell Clark & Co. Wine Merchants & a House of Agency in Calcutta; at 12 per cent pr annum.
The £100 advanced to me by the Court of Directors before I left England, and which you were so good as to be Security for me; I have paid it long ago; I should have got a Receipt from the Civil pay master and send it to you, but I really forgot it when I was at Calcutta.
I hope Sir, you will excuse this tidious & desultory Scrawl.
