On the 12 of April I sailed from Amboyna on board the Triton, we touch'd at Timor, and on the 23d May arrived at Madras with 37,089 Clove Nutmeg & other Plants on board, all in the best order, I left at that presidency 2066 Plants.
On the 18 June we sailed from Madras and arrived at Calcutta on the 25th with the remaining 35,023 plants.
Notwithstanding a circuitious Voyage, I have been successful in bringing one Nutmeg Tree 14 feet in height, bearing four Nutmegs, from the Island of Banda to Calcutta, one of which arrived at Maturity, and was presented to the Rt. Honble the Earl of Mornington on the 23rd September 98.
I found Doctor Fleming acting superintendant of the Botanic Garden, in the absence of Dr. Roxburgh who went to the Cape for the benefit of his health.
