tonight. These rapid moves are all being conducted silently. We do not know how things are going on the front elsewhere but absence of news of large advances and many prisoners lead me to believe either that the show has not started or that things are going too slow. Packs valises & blankets called in and everyone got into battle order ready to move. We passed our starting point at 7.45 p.m. and had a good march in the dark all things considered. Our band was playing as we passed about 300 German prisoners (some wounded) being escorted to the rear. They picked up the step to the tune of the band. It was dark but starlit and the searchlights and aeroplanes were active. The searchlights were thick and used on an angle sweeping method. We passed through
