2/9/18 Haut-Allaines

In support of 7th Bde pushed Greene's ("C" Coy) out to the Lock on the Canal. Gained touch here during the night with Pommies on both flanks. On our ration dump here 3 of our men were killed and others much shaken. Major Davis had some crying their eyes out up in the trenches after a bombardment – poor chaps their nerves are all upset. Remained on duty myself until pretty late and then turned in to bed. All our rations reached the Companies without incident.

No change in the situation during the night. I went out early – a fine day – and walked up past Mt St Quentin to where Davis is in Tortelle Tr. Passed several of our dead chaps and a German or two. More of ours. One chap had died with his head between his hands sitting slightly bent forward poor
