Trenches - we have to go back to the horses every morning to take them to water & feed them. We have very few men now owing to malaria & sandfly fever & dysentery. We return to trenches at 6 am & then do outpost & listening post. We average 5 hours sleep per night.  I am too dead beat for the mosquitoes to keep me awake. Can't sleep in daytime owing to flies.

Jordan valley an absolute nightmare.
