a path to the cookhouse as we expected all our ground to be flooded tomorrow. Had on gum boots & saved some salvage. This afternoon had afternoon tea with Madame in tuck shop in Pont de Nieppe with Sam & the boys. Walk to Nieppe.
A terrific bombardment is just commencing probably to usher in the New Year (11 pm) Forgot to mention that 5 of boys were transferred to A.D.S. today

Monday Jany 1st
New Years Day
More bombardment – and at 2 am this morning a daddy one which lasted some time. Water still rising though not so quickly.

Tuesday 2nd
River has gone down a little so danger at present is averted.

Wednesday 3rd
Very cool & strong wind today. To Pictures at night Saw Chaplin in "Pangs of Love" & "Mary Queen of Scots" awful [indecipherable] Then had fish & eggs at tuck shop. Very tricky the bowls without handles to drink out of. Was up in night – not too well

Thursday 4th
Spent morning in bed Did not eat anything
