with 6 wounded. Joe Nankivell was killed in almost the same circumstances.
The positions were evacuated during night & became probably No mans land a couple of days later as the flanks had had not advanced Chas Hamblin witnessed two shells lob on to one of our parties & blew the whole thing to atoms.

Nothing of interest during the night but I read some mail that came during my absence.

Thursday 15th
Slept until 6 pm. Meeting of sports Committee at 6 pm. Saw Arthur Mealey tonight. Quite [quiet?] night.

Friday 16th
Meeting of sports Committee at 3.45.

Saturday 17th
Was quite surprised to see young "Swinny" [Swinnerton] (now a Sgt) Gordon Dawkins & L/C McCure who all reported to the Ambulance for duty today.

Sunday 18th
In the afternoon John Perry & self journeyed to L'Estrade D.R.S. & met Clarrie Power (Corp M.M.) of the [Water] Board who I had not seen for some time – 5th Fld Amb. Also met Jimmy O'Sullivan late of the 9th. On the road saw Bert Crooke & directed him to the Ambulance for particulars of Sams death. He had been in the lines at Ypres been gassed
