Play for Church. No sleep. D., E. & I go to old Cairo to see cutting of Khalig. We meet two Gentlemen in the Royal Salon. I come home for Duty & E. & D. go Feasting.
Monday 21 August 1916
I play Tennis & play the Piano. Ellis goes to Cairo for Films & comes Home in a side car. Wrote to Marg. & Maisie Carter.
Tuesday 22 August 1916
Mail Day. E.T. gets 4 letters. Letters from D. Vernon, Dad, Bess, Otto, H. Hey, Mum & George.
Wednesday 23 August 1916
Wrote to H. Hey & D.C. Vernon, Otto & Annie (5) & Jess Mather, Bess. Ellis plays tennis & hurts his foot. The mob have Physical Jerks.
Thursday 24 August 1916
Wrote Home (65). Very windy, dusty day. E.T. Condon & I dine in Chanchie [?] Alley on Tomatoes, apricots, Bread, butter & coffee.
Friday 25 August 1916
Ellis goes to No. 3. Dave & I go to Cairo & Old Cairo Cemetery. I take Photo & Beat D. at Billiards. I still go on Night Duty yet no sleep. Hot Fom. from 3 to 6.30 on one chap.
Saturday 26 August 1916
Leave all day starts from 9 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. I go to Cairo for Film. I go off night Duty & have no Duty at all. I receive letters from Dad, Mum, Maisie Carter, Julie, Nettie.
