As ships other than those detailed for guard duties passed the C in C in Flag Ship Queen Elizabeth they gave him a raising cheer. In the evening a service of thanksgiving was held by Command of the C in C on his flag ship and he recommended the same course to be carried out by all Admirals, and naturally his wishes were carried out.
Admiral Halsey of "Australia" presented me with his flag flown on this memorable day and I shall keep it as a valued memento of the German surrender and in due course pass it on to my naval sons.
Left "Australia" at 6 PM, for Rosyth dock, calling on Admiral Levison in "Barham" and Admiral Robinson in "New York" on my way. Took train for London at 10.30 PM

Friday 22nd November
With Col. SoMerville arrived in London at 10.30 AM. Attended to correspondence during afternoon. Awarded French Legion d'Honneur.

Saturday 23rd November
During the day called on Mr. Woodburn and Larcombe of Comforts fund. Met Sir Gregory Wade at their offices. Called at Bank & Australia House. In afternoon with Miss George called on Sculptor Web Gilbert over Mt. St. Quentin monument. He has designed a fine composition representing an Australian soldier bayonetting the German eagle. When I return to France will arrange finally for placing of the Commission.

Sunday 24th November
Miserable wet day and did not go out of room. Wrote letters.

Monday 25th November
Attended at Camberwell hospital for the last time. At 11 AM met Mr. Larcombe and talked over Australian business matters. Lunched at Piccadilly Hotel with Col. & Mrs. Durrard & Miss George. The former gave me my French Croix de Guerre. After lunch with Miss George attended the opening of war picture display at Royal Art Society's rooms. Many fine pictures and portraits, Longstaff's sketch of myself included.
