he wants money & wishes prior advance of 2 or 300 Pound, he has no objection to fixing himself in England but the fear of losing the great advantage which a coinage in France would give him, he thinks in consequence that an engagement to put the coinage of half pence (Sols) perfectly in Train will be sufficient.  I will stay with you as long as is necessary for that business & I beg you will be convincd that I will do all in my power that the coinage of halfpence (Sols) is beautifull & perfect.

No. 20 - April 28, 1788
take notice that I oblige myself to put your coinage perfectly in train & be assurd that nothing in my power shall be omitted, the parts I have executed are so many cheif [indecipherable] and are intended for the coinage of the demy Sols the labor it has cost me is beyond all appreciation especialy in the work which is to form the edging & is so contrivd that it will be impossible to distinguish the most minute difference between the peices struck in different machines either in diameter engraving &c.  2 of the machines are nearly finishd, a third tolerably advancd & I am actualy employd in engraving of the marks on the edging.  I have repaird the puncheon of Britannia with much alteration & will as soon as possible make several dies that I may send to you the quantity of Sols which you are at present in want of, it is useless to enter at present with a discussion of the mode of multiplying the coins dies, I shall leave that till my arrival in Soho & suffice it to say that I can in a short time instruct your engraver to to do it very well, it is unnecessary for me to make the boxes &c, there you have models of & can execute, I will bring with me all the necessary for the Balancer & as the 6 Presses advance
