The Chinese appear to possess several sorts of Chestnuts which we in Europe are unacquainted with. These are no doubt an object of great interest to us & still more so to the inhabitants of the Southern Parts of Europe where the [indecipherable] of this Fruit are [Eaten?] & the nuts used as food instead of Corn. Vol 4 p. 503. Pe Tsai mentioned in Grosier p. 435.
from the account given here of this Plant it appears likely to be an acquisition of great importance to Europe & to England especially all the kinds will succeed here
The best sort that of the village of Ngan-Sun no doubt is the most desirable

a kind of Rice called Yu-Mi or imperial rice is mentioned which is said to be the only kind that will Ripen in the North of the great wall it is certainly an object of importance to [indecipherable] which has any Chance of producing its Grain in England & none yet known [indecipherable] to be so likely to succeed here as this kind which owes its origin to the Sagacity of Emperor Kang-hi
