& many other valuable plants in a wild state, on these islands you must be as industrious as posible because you have little chance of being able to allowd to Botanise in any other Part of the Chinese Empire
The book of Chinese Drawing that Mr Lance carries out with him, will enable you to enquire after many Plants that might not possibly have become known either to Mr Lance or to you, I could also advise you to look over Patterns of chinese paper and such drawings,as Mr Lance may borrow from the Chinese for your use as the plants painted by the chinese even in their furniture are so exact & so little exageratd as to be intellegible to a Botanist, in this manner you may produce the name of valuable plants produced in distant provinces & often perhaps be by these means enabled to procure by Mr Lances correspondence the plants themselves
