<p>a4701792.html</p><p>3/&nbsp; writing this letter.&nbsp; We generally leave here about 10 am, after lots of rifle, gas-helmet &amp; other inspections, but it is after 8 p.m. ere we return for tea, leaving little or no time for letter-writing &amp; far less for inclination.&nbsp; Sleep is the only other thing besides a feed that we are fit for, so the change today for me is a welcome one.&nbsp; S&#39;pose I&#39;ll have to continue with the &quot;fatigue&quot; tomorrow, seeing that the pen &amp; ink job is complete.</p><p>You&#39;ll be surprised to learn that I have met Les N. [?] , in fact he is camped only a &frac14; mile from this place.&nbsp; He saw one of our lads near here on the day of our arrival (Wed.) &amp; straight away found out where I was.&nbsp; It was, as you can guess, a surprise meeting, &amp; I was pleased to see him &quot;sum-mor&quot;.&nbsp; We had a petit promenade B4 dusk &amp; a talk of &quot;Angleterre&quot; &amp; by-gone days in &quot;Aussie&quot;.&nbsp; Last eve he came again as he was off duty &amp; wishes me to convey to you all, his best wishes - &amp; all that sort-o&#39;-thing.&nbsp; Says that you must XQQ him for the few &amp; far between letters which he sends to &quot;W&#39;bool&quot;, but correspondence is not in his line.&nbsp; I tell him that it is only by practice, &amp; stealing other people&#39;s styles, that this task - a pleasant one when time, comfort &amp; opportunity is with one - is made easier.&nbsp; The change to this side of the Pond (he joined the 1st. Pioneer Battn. - &quot;C&quot; Coy.<s>)</s> during Decr. I believe) after 14 months of life on the &quot;Plain&quot; has made him look &quot;A1&quot; as regards health &amp; he reckons that he is fit.&nbsp; May have opportunities of seeing him regular till we go back to the &quot;Rest&quot; Area (some 3 weeks yet I believe) so will let you know from time to time how he is faring.</p><p>Was surprised to receive another note from &quot;Archie&quot; Murdock the day B4 yesterday, this time telling me that he is now over on this side of the &quot;Gutter&quot; &amp; attached to the 6th. Army Brigade BAC A.F.A.I do not know the Unit @ all, but he cannot be very far from where I am now writing.&nbsp; I&#39;ve already written to see if he can enlighten me any further as to his where-abouts, so will let you know when those details come to hand.</p><p>Do not know how Les C. is faring just now because his last (to which I&#39;ve replied) was written a few hours previous to his return to the Battn. from the &quot;Big Smoke&quot;, where he&#39;d been on leave.&nbsp; He told me all about the pleasant visit to bonnie Dundee &amp; what he saw &amp; did there, also about other parts.&nbsp; Can only hope that if he is back, all still goes well.&nbsp; Best wishes &amp; regards go to you from him.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>PTO</p><p>to</p><p>One&nbsp;&nbsp; [written at bottom left side margin]</p>
