To the Right Hon'ble Sir Joseph Banks Bart. K. B. &c &c

Prince of Wales Island
June 23rd 1799.

Right Honble Sir,

I beg leave to communicate to you the out lines of my peregrination from the year 96 till the present period. &c.

In October 96 I heard of an expedition being preparing at Madras, for the invasion of the Spice Islands under the command of Adml Rainier & Colonel Vigars.

I told Doctor Roxburgh that it would be a favorable opportunity of procuring the Spice plants &c. and that I would, with the permission of Government cheerfully proceed to the Moluccas for that purpose, the Doctor approved of what I had said, and the next day he mentioned it to Sir John Shore who readily gave his Sanction.
