that we we week we have been encamped about 5 miles further across the flat about a mile this side of the Jordan. We moved down after dark & arrived on the shelled spot about 9 pm, the regiments & first line troops started out the same night & there was heavy shelling on our part in the morning. It was just after Lunch when we were about to put up a bivvy when suddenly a shell dropped 60 yds away & exploded with a feeble report. You never saw such surprised people in
