I came down first & prospected for a good site & now we are in quite a decent little place amongst the scrub, which is composed of a prickly tree after the style of the English Hawthorn & which bears quantities of little berries just like apples only about 1/5 the size. I am told this species grows only in parts of South Africa & this valley The natives call it "Nebbuck", the fruit when ripe is good to eat & just like an apple in taste.
There are quite a number of fireflies here too & the scrub at
