I entered it about an hour after. I then went back to Millers Son [grave of VC winner James Miller]. I went over the old battlefield. We walked this morning where yesterday we feared to crawl. What a sight it is. In some places the dead bodies are three or four deep. They were mostly Tommies who fell in November.
There are fires everywhere on the horizon. Old Fritz seems to be leaving a track of destruction behind him. The infantry have gone right on & are still advancing. The guns have been rushed up & are now in position. There is no end of excitement & smiling faces. We are now busily occupied in
