The New South Wales
Sunday School Institution,
Established December 1, 1815.

At a MEETING of a few Friends in Sydney, December 1, 1815, held as the Result of occasional Conversations on the Need and Importance of some Efforts being made, however feeble, to establish SUNDAY SCHOOLS in the various Settlements of the Colony, and particularly in the Capital, for the Benefit of the numerous CHILDREN needing Instruction, and which it is presumed if such Schools were established would contribute to the general Good of the Community at large, it was unanimously resolved and agreed to form the following INSTITUTION, for the explicit Purpose of furnishing the Means of Instruction to the numerous and growing Families of all such as will send their Children to the Schools when so formed :-

His Excellency the Governor having been previously waited upon by Mr. Rowland Hassall, and respectfully solicited to give his sanction to the Design ; when His Excellency was pleased most cordially to approve of the Object of the Institution, and promised to give it his Support.
