Requirement and Rules for Persons engaging themselves as Teachers in the Parramatta Sunday School,

Instituted in the year 1815

Persons desirous of becoming Teachers must be proposed at a monthly meeting and if everything appears satisfactory they will be elected by a majority on a show of hands. 

REQUIREMENTS

It is Required,

I. As being the great object of the Institution, that you endeavour, to the best of your ability, in the plainest and most endearing manner, to impress on the minds of your Scholars the plain, simple, and fundamental principles and doctrines of the Bible; together with the several moral duties which as Children they owe to their Parents, Masters, &c. &c. in no wise attempting to influence their opinion in favour of any on denomination of Christians.

II. That you strictly conform to every regulation of internal management which is now or may in future be adopted by the Committee, and see that the orders of the Superintendant are carried into full effect in your own respective section.

III. That you constantly attend in your place from the time of opening to the close of the School, unless occasions of absolute necessity prevent, in which case you will invariably arrange with your fellow Teachers (if possible the Sunday previous) that your section be not neglected.

IV. When a child has been absent two Sundays without sufficient reason, that you call on the Parents of Guardians during the week, enquire the cause and mark it against the name on the class board (if sick, acquaint the Secretary soon as possible). If at any time you have it not in your power to call on your children, you will inform the Superintendant who will appoint a Teacher to do it for you.

V. That you do not inflict bodily punishment, but behave in the most gentle manner possible, consistent with the authority of a Teacher; and not only on the Sabbath, but, as you have opportunity, by your attentions during the week, that you study to further the improvement and gain the affection of your Scholars. In short, considering the welfare of the Society as resting on your individual exertions, you will feel it yo[...]

VI. RULES.

I. That a meeting of the Teachers be held monthly (and more frequently if the state of the school should render it necessary,) for the consideration of what means many be most conducive to the prosperity and utility of the School.

II. That all children on entering the School, be presented with books suited to their capacities, and that when they shall have  acquired a satisfactory knowledge of the Assembly's Catchism each child be presented with a Testament.

III. That the Teachers voluntarily subscribe (monthly) for the purpose of purchasing books &c, for the children. And that each Teacher exert his or her influence to provide for the wants of children in this respect.

IV. That in the vent of a class becoming too large for one Teacher, it be divided into sections and an assistant Teacher or Teachers appointed.
