a very severe cost. I only now have one of those officers left (wounded), & can recognise very few of my men. It will take a long time to train these reinforcements to the same state of efficiency as the old company, but still it will be done.
You were asking me to send along snapshots, but we are not allowed to carry cameras. I got yours & gathered from [indecipherable] that the German prisoners were having too much of a good thing. We have heard stories here about the treatment they deal out to our men, which will not improve matters for themselves if we get into their trenches, which I hope we will do.
I will write again in a day or two.
