Estuary of the Ganges - the Other Ships - Castlereah & Minerva we found had only preceeded us two days - Thus Ended the Voyage from England to Bengal hardy amounting to 4 Months including our detention at Ceylon - and with so little rough weather, that it [indecipherable] leaves a trace on the Memory.

     In the Course of our Voyage - few fish or other animals were Caught - our fishermen were not Expert  - and the total Number taken, did Not Exceed half a dozen (of all kinds) - Something Novel to me occurred while in the North Atlantic - on the 17th June in Lat: 23º. 25 - and Longde - 23º 17' West a Shoal of Cuttle fish approached the Ship - seemingly pursued by other fish - and when within a short distance of the Ship (60 to 100 feet) - Several Sprang out of the water - and two of the Number flew into the Port of the Chief Officers Cabin coming with so much force against the door Next the Steerage as to Excite immediate attention by the Sound of the blow:  they were taken up uninjured and in good state for preserving in Sprt - they proved to be Sepia Media of Linnneus - tollerably figured in the French Eneyelop - Method Table 77 -  As this Animal is not, like the flying fish furnished with fins - I Concluded its powers of locomotion - are enlarged by the Action of the broad Coriaceous Membrane which terminates the abdomen and as in the fins of the Flying Fish - this aids its [indecipherable] to Escape a Voracious Enemy. - The length of the Subjects are 10½ Inches in length - & 3½ - greatest Circumference.   the Ship was passing through the water at the rate of 7 Knots In the Seas - I Noticed several beautiful Species
