night. I was on picquet last night from 13.10 to 3.15. It was an easy picquet for I stayed in bed most of the time.

There was a Kit Inspection this morning and battalion sports in the afternoon, I did not go but stayed in the Smiths shop making souvenirs.

Sunday March 17. 1918. 1322.
St Patricks day in Coulombes. I was chaffcutting this morning. There was the usual half holiday in the afternoon. which I spent polishing some souvenirs & writing letters. [Four lines of shorthand : I wrote to my dear wife this afternoon and enclosed it in a green envelope Letter 120. I also wrote making application for a transfer to the A.L.R.O.C.]

Some of the lads who are of Irish parentage put up a bit of green ribbon today. All in my hut had up a piece of green although not half are Catholics.

Monday March 18. 1918. 1323.
A fine day.

I was doing a little Blacksmithing today.

J.R. Matthews returned this afternoon & is looking well.
