by this time beautifully mild getting warmer & warmer every day, & instead of sleeping up in the barn where there were a tremendous lot of rats, I and a few others slept under trees in the orchard. For over a month we had practically nothing to do but recuperate & lounge down to the Divisional Canteen for ger – lorcious beer 12 to 130 and 6 to 9. The estaminets, where wine was procurable at 2 and 3 francs a bottle, were well patronised, and the troops right through comforted themselves, with the utmost respectability.
