Remainder of Brigade marched thro Zag a Zig, fixed bayonets & loaded rifles.
Sgt Mathieson buried at 4 pm. Several wreaths came from English Civilians. Self & three others came up line abt 8 Kilos from Zag a Zig guarding a bridge - all quiet.
Wednesday, 20 19 March
Still on guard at the bridge.
Relieved by 1 NCO & 6 men at 5.15.
Commandered a garry & niggers to go back to Zag a Zig. Arrived 6.30. J Ferguson & 3 men attacked by a mob. 2 escaped back to Camp. Party went out to find Ferguson & Brown. Both badly smashed. Ferguson died during the night.
